Janet has been with Rancho Del Mar for the past 15 years as a part-time saddle seat instructor.

Janet Goldsmith grew up riding, showing and working for Marilyn Fields (Macfarlane) at Breezy Knoll Stables in Charleston, WV.   She took her horse to college at Morehead State University in KY, minoring in Equestrian Studies, working summers at Marilyn’s Walnut Way Farm in Shelbyville, KY and at Oglebay Park Stables in Wheeling, WV.  Upon graduation with a B.A. in Recreation, she spent one year at Misty Hills in Troy, NY, directing and growing their large public lesson program, also helping groom and work show horses under trainer Sally Lindabury.  While there, she met future husband, John, who she followed to Huntington Beach, California in 1980. Prior to her family’s close association with Anne and RDM, she spent 10 years teaching lessons part-time and showing with Gary Holt Stable in the Los Angeles area.

Janet is a patient instructor, enjoying students of all ages.  Her riders look forward to their action-packed lessons and the opportunity to ride with some groups.  In between teaching, supporting her students and her daughters riding at horse shows for RDM, she also co-advises the Rancho Del Martians Youth Group, helps out with riding camps,  assists with RDM party planning, parades, website and general fun stuff!  Additionally, daughters Mackenzie (19) & Samantha (16) have helped her develop a program that offers Girl Scout troops the opportunity to earn their horse related badges at Rancho Del Mar.
